{"id":541,"date":"2011-02-22T18:43:42","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T23:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.bottlerockettheology.com\/?p=541"},"modified":"2011-02-22T18:43:42","modified_gmt":"2011-02-22T23:43:42","slug":"our-water-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dave.dlscott.info\/?p=541","title":{"rendered":"Our &#8220;water effect&#8221; &#8230; God&#8217;s watering can!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My wife and I read Psalm 37 last night.\u00a0 And God was there.<\/p>\n<p>We haven&#8217;t been sitting down with each other in the evening as we should, and we both decided that this week we need to make it a point of emphasis, no matter how busy we seem to be.<\/p>\n<p>And as always it was great.\u00a0 Not &#8220;great&#8221; because &#8220;great&#8221; rolls out of my mouth before I realize what I am saying.\u00a0 Or &#8220;great&#8221; because I am trying to convince myself.\u00a0 Or frankly, not &#8220;great&#8221; because I am trying to impress you.<\/p>\n<p>It was just great.\u00a0 We felt the gentle breeze of God arriving; I think we sometimes get a glimpse, a hint, a taste of God coming to the garden in Eden to walk among the trees and visit with his family.<\/p>\n<p>My wife &#8211; can&#8217;t really remember her exact words &#8211; expressed this feeling of God&#8217;s words washing over her; some other things I can&#8217;t remember, but I knew exactly what she meant because I felt the same way.<\/p>\n<p>God was speaking the words to us as I read.\u00a0 It is like so often happens when we sit down for supper.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like God serves the meal.\u00a0 The provision is so personal, from his hand.<\/p>\n<p>And last night &#8230; from his mouth.\u00a0 Water.\u00a0 Words of life.\u00a0 Gentle rain on our needy, open hearts.\u00a0 Refreshment from heaven.<\/p>\n<p>As I said &#8220;God was there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I thought.\u00a0 &#8220;This is like a water effect&#8221; except so much better.\u00a0 Not just a temporary respite, but all the words God spoke to us as we sat in our living room breathed eternity.<\/p>\n<p>And we have a place with God there.\u00a0 Though stuck in the middle of stuff here and now, we have a place with him in forever.<\/p>\n<p>And I have to wonder &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If God just didn&#8217;t decide to &#8220;sit a spell&#8221; with us &#8230; take a little time and speak his presence and hope and promise to two of his children.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Isaiah 55:10\u201311 (The Message)<br \/>\nJust as rain and snow descend from the skies and don\u2019t go back until they\u2019ve watered the earth, doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry, so will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed.\u00a0 They\u2019ll do the work I sent them to do, they\u2019ll complete the assignment I gave them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks Father for speaking to us last night.\u00a0 Thanks for the rain.\u00a0 Thanks for the time and care.\u00a0 Thanks for &#8220;sitting a spell.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(<strong>Parenthetical Thought:<\/strong> I have often thought of how Adam and Eve must  have missed this time after the fall.\u00a0 How wonderful it must have been  to have God visit every evening.\u00a0 Just now however, I thought.\u00a0 How  sad.\u00a0 <strong>I think God probably really missed that time also. <\/strong>Think about  it.\u00a0 A friend or relative you used to see regularly, you used to drop in for a  coffee at the kitchen table.\u00a0 Now gone or the relationship has fallen apart.\u00a0 And  we miss that.\u00a0 We forget that God enjoys us, loves us and unbelievably  to me wants my love and my company.\u00a0 Wow.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My wife and I read Psalm 37 last night.\u00a0 And God was there.
