teachings collectively: religious doctrine.\u00a0 3. a body or system of teachings relating to a particular subject<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/doctrine\">http:\/\/dictionary.reference.com\/browse\/doctrine<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Syllogism of the Day:<br \/>\nIf a commandment is teaching, and teaching is doctrine, then the Great Commandment would have to be the greatest doctrine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sometimes I am frustrated by the inconsistency of fellow Christians.<\/p>\n<p>Not all groups, but some, quite a few actually have elevated &#8220;doctrine&#8221; to such heights that even the definition of doctrine itself has been distorted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Doctrine&#8221; is first and foremost.\u00a0 And almost always with that perspective is a careful, as in fearful, approach to the love of God.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t get carried away with love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But you can get carried away with doctrine?\u00a0 That&#8217;s okay?<\/p>\n<p>Even though by definition, loving God and loving your neighbor would have to be considered the two greatest, most important doctrines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are inconsistent. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Somehow doctrine is safe and the love of God is the first step toward a slippery slope.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Run headfirst and dive for the deep waters in doctrine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>But tiptoe to the wading pool when it comes to love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;What does the Word of God say?&#8221;\u00a0 That is the basis for good doctrine.\u00a0 Safe territory.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And I agree. <\/strong> So what does the word of God say?\u00a0 If we are going to be consistent, then let&#8217;s listen as God speaks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Matthew 22:35\u201340 (NAS)\u00a0 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, \u201cTeacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?\u201d\u00a0 And He said to him, \u201c \u2018You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 This is the great and foremost commandment.\u00a0 The second is like it, \u2018You shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019\u00a0 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Timothy 1:5 (NAS) But <strong>the goal of our instruction is love<\/strong> from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> 1 Timothy 1:5 (ESV) <strong>The aim of our charge is love<\/strong> that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> 1 Timothy 1:5 (NIV) <strong>The goal of this command is love<\/strong>, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Anyone else see a pattern here?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Review:<\/strong> If a commandment is teaching, and teaching is doctrine, then the Great Commandment would have to be the greatest doctrine.<\/p>\n<p>And loving God is the great commandment, with loving your neighbor as a close second.<\/p>\n<p>That is what the word of God says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If doctrine is teaching &#8230;
