{"id":949,"date":"2011-11-08T20:41:27","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T00:41:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.bottlerockettheology.com\/?p=949"},"modified":"2011-11-08T20:41:27","modified_gmt":"2011-11-09T00:41:27","slug":"holy-temples-and-filthy-rags","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dave.dlscott.info\/?p=949","title":{"rendered":"Holy temples and filthy rags &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Don&#8217;t you know? \u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you have trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, then your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Corinthians 6:19\u201320 (GW)<br \/>\nDon\u2019t you know that your body is a temple that belongs to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit, whom you received from God, lives in you. You don\u2019t belong to yourselves. <sup>20 <\/sup>You were bought for a price. So bring glory to God in the way you use your body.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have to admit that I must answer &#8220;yes&#8221; and &#8220;no.&#8221; \u00a0I mean I know; I really do. \u00a0But what a concept &#8211; God living in me. \u00a0Here is how I know this to be true and how I can accept it to be true.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I believe without qualification what God says in his &#8220;Book&#8221; &#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nBecause of my unwavering belief in the truthfulness of God in his book, the Holy Bible. This is the only way that I could believe something such as this to be true, something so beyond my human comprehension.<\/p>\n<p>I believe this to be true and accept it to be a part of my life because my God tells me this is what he has done when I came to believe in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and received his gift of eternal life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The John 3:16 &#8220;package&#8221; &#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is one of the many-splendored aspects of the John 3:16 &#8220;package,&#8221; the gift of eternal life. \u00a0Allow this same Holy Spirit to teach us as he unwraps the gift and be amazed. \u00a0And fall down and worship. \u00a0And serve.<\/p>\n<p>We must remember that we are holy temples because of God, what he has done, the righteousness that he gives us through Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Not because of who we are and what we have done.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember the\u00a0filthy rags &#8230;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s listen as Isaiah describes our goodness before we came to know Christ.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Isaiah 64:6 (NIV84)<br \/>\nAll of us have become like one who is unclean,\u00a0and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;\u00a0we all shrivel up like a leaf,\u00a0and like the wind our sins sweep us away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We stray from God&#8217;s course of righteousness and choose our own standards of what is right and wrong. \u00a0Often building our man-made excursions into the holy right on top of God&#8217;s words. \u00a0So it must be okay, right?<\/p>\n<p>Of course it is not okay because we have forgotten why the temple is holy and what the &#8220;temple&#8221; was before God brought his presence into our lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before God: \u00a0Filthy rags.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After trust in Christ: \u00a0Holy temple.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;\">Here is how we remember:<\/span><\/strong><br style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;\" \/><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;\"> When we do whatever we do apart from God, it is filthy rags. \u00a0No exceptions. The works we perform and the standards we set won&#8217;t seem like filthy rags to us. Other like-minded people will not tell us they are filthy rags because they, as we, are blind to this particular affliction. \u00a0The self-righteous person does not typically identify himself or herself as self-righteous &#8230; \u00a0Unless they are bowing before God confessing their sin of self-righteousness.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>John 15:5 (NIV84)<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"line-height: 10px;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span>I am the vine; you are the branches.
