STUDY SHEETS for FFC for Sunday November 29, 2015

wisdom from above who gets it 3d man

Are you wise? You should be.

This is the question that James begins with in this week’s text.

Who is wise and understanding among you?

And as I just said, you should be wise if you are a believer in Jesus Christ and have received his gift of salvation. Why do I say that you should be? And … would it be arrogant to admit that you are wise?

James already told us in chapter one that if we lack wisdom, then we need to ask God for wisdom. So, either you are wise or you haven’t asked or you have asked but there are things that you just can’t quite let go of.

  • (James 1:5–7 ESV) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.

So are you wise and understanding? And, if not, then why? Not any good reasons not to be, not biblically anyway.

Let’s change direction a little as you squirm … I mean, think about it.

For the wise person, there is a tremendous road of blessing ahead. “Look out world. Here comes a believer in Jesus who is going to live in purity, mercy, good works … and will be very busy planting peace and harvesting righteousness.”

How about entering your workplace with that attitude and biblical direction?

Does our world need any of that? That’s what I thought. 🙂
