  He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Judgmental?  Harsh?  Not really the point.

Is it true?  That is what you need to face.

“Oh, I know I should read more, but …”

Life, as you have chosen and pursued it, is more important than the life that God directs you to.  Just look at your choices. Simple deduction.

And it is more, so much more, than being familiar with concepts and “Christian principles.”  It is about knowing God through his words.  If you do not pursue a vital relationship with God through his words, then at best you have a second-hand understanding of who he is and what he is about.

We only learn this in a state of humility and hunger – “he humbled you.”

God calls us to live by his words but we don’t hear the message if we are not hungry for more than what we have offered ourselves, if we do not long for more than what we can see or imagine.

We yearn for his words when those words nourish something deep within us that this world cannot touch.

So back to – Is the Bible not important enough to you that you will determine to make the time to hear the voice of God?

I recently read through Isaiah and Jeremiah this statement and some variations resounded from their message –  “This is what the Lord says.”

Again and again, “this is what the Lord says.”

But again and again they didn’t listen because that had their own plans for life.

It is not important enough to you!

We speak of it’s importance, but if the words were life to us, then “life” would not keep us from what is vital to our survival.

Here’s the very honest truth.

If I were “doing” the Bible, I wouldn’t include the SOS.

I read it every year as part of my reading plan, but I’m telling you right now, I don’t know why God included it.

Which brings me to another thought …

I’m glad I’m not God. I’m sure you are also, but I am very happy and content that I don’t know everything, can’t figure it all out, realize that the mystery of life is evidence, not of merely a “higher power” but of the God of the Bible.

So back to “the Song” …

God chose to include it. As I said earlier, I would not have done so.

And my God is big enough and gracious enough and merciful enough to allow me to feel this way and to express it (even on the Internet) and he will still let me know that he loves me with an eternal love.

So … this evening I will sit down and read “the Song” and thank my God for every word of his sovereign choice.

And I praise my God!

Back to this powerful computer I just bought.

I have two complete bibles; will have more; exc web access, very fast 3G, blog apps so as time allows can blog during the day; hopefully will stay much more current.

I am even doing the two thumb thing.

I have dictionaries – English, foreign languages, etc

The iPod works quite well; more and better functionality than my nano.

So let’s see how quickly this posts.

At home; seeing if this posts immediately.

In God’s sight … Living in a place that is pleasing to God … is very precious.

Do we “get it?”

We don’t come to this place begrudgingly. We do not merely accept God’s direction but we embrace what God has for us. In this passage Peter writes that this is the beauty desired. This is an invitation to living in the reality of God.

We all have agonizing decisions. We battle our wills. But in the end we must bow before God in gracious submission.

1 Peter 3.4
but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

Do we trust God’s goodness, wisdom and direction?

Here is clear, simple instruction that when followed opens our eyes to what is valuable to God.

Will we choose God’s wisdom and words over our will and desires?
