“You know how I am.”

A person knows something like that, would say something like that.

A theory can’t.  Theology can’t.  Rules memorized can’t.  Doctrine can’t.

Only a person understands.

Do we know God or do we merely know his theology?

There are not many things in a relationship more intimate than knowing that the other person knows your faults, sins and foibles and still accepts and loves you.

“I’m quirky.  You know how I am.”

Can you say that to God without going into confessional mode?

You know what I mean.  You’ve heard our prayers.  “Oh, Lord, you know I need to pray more, witness more, sacrifice more, give more, blah, blah. . .more.”

Can you sit at the table with God and  allow him to accept you as you are?

God knows you’re a goofball even if you don’t.  God knows you are a sinner.  He is keenly aware of your darkest thoughts.

And in Jesus Christ there is no condemnation.

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8.1).

So which part of “no” don’t you understand?

Maybe the part that is just a bit of information, some theology that I have grasped intellectually, but I don’t know the person saying it.

“Oh, God, you know how I am.”  Not making an excuse, just sighing a bit of truth with a Friend.

He really is, you know!
