Crying for the world

Do you ever feel like that?

Crying for the world, I mean.

So much tragedy and heartache; our little frail systems can’t handle the information; we overload; we cry.  But usually this is for someone close to us; a family member, close friend, neighbor, co-worker.

But sometimes it is the panorama of sadness that breaks down our fragile emotions; the pain, suffering and loss of people we don’t know and have never heard of.  And we cry.

I can’t imagine what Christ experienced as he lived here.  What agony of heart!  What frustration as he opened his arms and we turned away!  And he, of all people, knew there was an answer, a better plan, as he was the “plan,” but it still hurt as he, too, sometimes cried for the world.

  • Luke 13.34 MSG
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killer of prophets, abuser of the messengers of God!
How often I’ve longed to gather your children, gather your children like a hen,
Her brood safe under her wings— but you refused and turned away!

How cool will that be …

  • Hebrews 6:10 (NIV)
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

How cool is that?

Just try to imagine with me for a moment as God brings you before himself and turns to your chapter in his book of deeds done in the name of Jesus.  What excitement as he leafs through the pages of your story and reads and comments about the things that you did in the name of Jesus Christ, probably over a cappuccino because if any drink is going to be in heaven it will probably be in the coffee family.  (That’s my dream and I’m stickin’ to it.)

And most of this stuff we have probably forgotten about.

  • Matthew 25:37-40 (MSG)
Then those ‘sheep’ are going to say, “Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?” Then the King will say, “I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.”

“Oh, that’s right, I forgot about that!”  Or “You mean that little thing meant something to you, Lord?”

This is not about earning our way or having enough good deeds to outweigh our bad deeds; this is about loving devoted service to God in the name of Jesus Christ.

So don’t get tired of doing the right thing.  It matters.  And, no, we don’t do it for the reward but the reward will be fantastic.

  • Galatians 6:9-10 (NLT)
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.  Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

And please remember this …

When the struggle of life on Earth is over so has the opportunity to show ourselves faithful ended.

Crayon drawings

Tired, worn, overused but also very true and real and we must never forget:  God loves our crayon drawings.

I was listening to an old Steven Curtis Chapman song – “More Than Words” – and I, too, want God’s message to me to be more than words and my words to him likewise.  And for whatever reason I also thought of God’s wonderful acceptance of our feeble efforts to express our love and faithfulness to him.  I am not discounting our noble acts of service when we do things right; I guess the thought that came to me was that no matter how elaborate and sophisticated our words and service are to God, to the one whose ways and thoughts are above our ways and thoughts as the heavens are above the earth, what we do is like a crayon drawing.

I know the analogy is very tired and very worn, but the thought is still very true and powerful.  Our mighty deeds are very humble deeds to a God who is above all and through all, and yet Abba Father is ever so happy to accept our chicken scratches of love and worship and faithful service to him and pin them on his refrigerator.

How great is that!

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood

Getting lots of rain in Indiana and I am sure other places also; very fresh as God waters his land.  It is so great for spring to be in full bloom.  What is even greater is to see some gospel seeds planted in several of my friends and acquaintances.  God seems to be blessing my diligent labor with the book – Beyond Pretend – with opportunities to share the message, and I pray that he will produce fruit from these many opportunities.

I have a few more weeks where I am off work because of the injury and subsequent surgery to my shoulder.  My hope is to have a very strong start on – Beyond Pretend:  A Sheep’s Guide to Life on the Planet!

I did not intend to follow the same theme as the previous book, but this really seems to be what God is working out; have already begun processing ideas, building an outline and brainstorming ways for my very talented accomplice – VAL – to illustrate my ideas.

May God bless you.  Let him do that.  Bow before him and let him be God in your life.  That is my prayer for you, at least one of them.  🙂

New book well received.

I have had several opportunities to communicate the message of forever life in Jesus Christ through the book I just finished. I am very pleased with the response; just ordered more books today as I sold my last one yesterday. Very encouraging.

Today I begin a new book.

Hi,
If anyone is interested I officially begin work on my newest book. I have been thinking this through for some time, collecting my thoughts, scratching out notes, but today I begin. I fired up Scrivener and am ready for the quest.

I believe I have decided on a title also after much deliberation and brainstorming. The book and title are going to follow the theme and character of my last book. I will also use the same format for layout and printing, a 9X7 landscape layout.

The new title is – Beyond Pretend: A Sheep’s Guide to Life on the Planet!

Let me know what you think; I have bounced this idea off a few people; I think I’ve got a keeper.

I also hope to begin work on the podcast this week. Finally!
